I missed the following Letter to the Editor in the Huntington Herald-Dispatch Friday.
I'm not sure who the author is, but he's now one of my favorite people. :)
If you're reading this, THANKS Mr. Burnette! I'll be there on the 13th and I want to shake your hand.

Lack of funding closes kids’ shelter
This is to let the citizens of Huntington know about the closing of the only children’s shelter in the area, namely Time-Out, at 1431 7th Ave.
As of now, there is no provision for homeless children. The reason cited to me was lack of funding. The officials at the Huntington Mission informed me there was nothing they could do (although office renovations at the shelter continue apace).
Now, there is no lack of funding for the Huntington Museum of Art, removal of blight at Olympic Pool, honoring the girls soccer team and the East Huntington Little League, etc. Indeed, there is plenty for those our local officials deem worthy (that is, those who can benefit them).
Clearly, homeless children cannot vote, so they feel they can safely be ignored.
There will be a meeting at the Huntington City Hall at 5 p.m. Dec. 13. If you would help these little ones, be there and make your voice heard. If they will not help our children, vote every one of them out next election.
