The West Virginia House of Delegates voted yesterday to raise the state minimum wage in three stages to $7.25 by 2008. The bill, HB 4023, passed by a margin of 87-10 and has been communicated to the state Senate. It is unclear what the Senate intends to do with the bill.
My buddies Jeremiah and Malachi had some comments about the bill that I thought I would pass along to any Senators who may be stopping by the blog.
Jeremiah says, “Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness, and his upper rooms by injustice; who makes his neighbors work for nothing, and does not give them their wages.” (Jeremiah 22:13)
Not to be outdone, Malachi quotes God in making his case, "So I will come near to you for judgment. I will be quick to testify against sorcerers, adulterers and perjurers, against those who defraud laborers of their wages, who oppress the widows and the fatherless, and deprive aliens of justice, but do not fear me," says the LORD Almighty. (Malachi 3:5)
Whoa there Malachi, you're saying judgment of those who defraud laborers of their wages is the same as that reserved for sorcerers and adulterers?
hmmm
I guess Delegate Mitch Carmichael (R) who said "there is no moral imperative" requiring a minimum wage in an interview on Talkline this morning missed that part of your book.
