Jotting Yourself

This is one of the coolest things I have seen in a long time.

Jott logoIt's a new service called Jott, and it is amazing.

After a quick sign up, you call Jott toll-free, record a message, and it's automatically transcribed and emailed to you and/or the recipient(s) of your choice.

It's a ridiculously simple process that lets you convert cell phone calls to text.

So far, I have mostly been Jotting myself (not to be confused with "completing the Launch Process" ;> ), but you can also set up contacts and group lists to send messages to co-workers, family, etc.

I've tried using David Allen's Getting Things Done (GTD) system, and Jott is working great for capturing To Do's and reminders on the go.

Now, when I think of that random idea or something that I need to add to my To Do list, I simply use my speed dial (press J on my Treo 700p), Jott myself, and voila, I receive a transcribed email message.

To make things even easier, I set up a new rule in Entourage (sorry Windows folks) to process messages from Jott that contain the words "To Do", so that they're automatically added to my "To Do list". The tasks are then automatically sync'd up with iCal and my Treo. It is SWEET!

I've also used Jott to transcribe some short messages by reading my handwritten notes from a couple of recent meetings or items listed on a flip chart. Aside from a spelling error here and there, it works great. It's an awesome way to transfer my various napkin scribbles to a manageable note-taking system on the computer.

I heartily recommend that everyone Jott themselves! You've just got to Jott! :-)
