Met-Rx World's Strongest Man Competitors Visit East End Family Resource Center

Showing that they have more than just strong muscles, six competitors including Charleston's own Phil Pfister, 2006 World's Strongest Man, stopped by the East End Family Resource Center Thursday afternoon to spend some time with kids from at the local after-school program.

The athletes mingled with the youth for a good while and then answered their questions and shared some of their personal experiences and advice for how to accomplish your goals and attain your dreams. The men were great with the children who were clearly thrilled to meet the athletes.

After sharing their insights the athletes signed autographs and posed for pictures for every child attending. They also signed shirts, hats, water bottles and other giveaways for the East End Family Resource Center staff to use as incentives for the youth during their ongoing activities at the center.

The athletes are in town for the 2008 Met-Rx World's Strongest Man competition, which begins on Saturday. Today's event was a collaborative effort between the WSM event organizers, Chesapeake Energy and Prevent Child Abuse WV.

As the WSM Competition continues during the next 10 days, these partners are also sponsoring a Strong Families Festival with fun family activities including inflatables, family resources, food, and fun for those attending the WSM events.

I hope those who are in the area will attend some of the events and stop by the Strong Families Festival to say hello. Just remember that strong communities build strong families - and strong families build strong communities.
