Senator Ken Salazar to be Named Interior Secretary

According to several sources, Colorado Senator Ken Salazar is President-elect Obama's choice to lead the Department of Interior.

I don't know much about the Senator (other than his penchant for cowboy hats), but he seemed to be getting pretty cozy with Ranger Rick, the Raccoon, in this picture that I snapped outside the Big Tent in Denver during the Democratic National Convention.

As Secretary of the Interior, Salazar would have broad responsibility for public lands, national parks and domestic energy resources which could have a big impact on West Virginia - especially as proposals for the Potomac Appalachian Transmission Highline (PATH) move forward.

Some folks have expressed concern with the appointment because of his time as a rancher, but it's nice to know that at least Salazar has good relationships with "rodents of unusually large size."

We wish you well Senator. West Virginia's raccoons and other critters (and by critters I mean all of us) need for you to do a good job.
