I shared the same example to close my keynote address at the Family Leadership First Conference at Canaan Valley last Saturday. I used it to illustrate the fact that every child is special and valuable in their own way, and that we need to care for and support ALL children in our community.
Each and every child has value and should be cherished - not just when they are pretty little babies, but even when they have been through rough times, are older, or have other circumstances that make them unique.
It was an honor to speak at the conference, especially to all of the teenagers who were there. I'm sure I learned more from them during our Community Cafe' Friday night than they learned from me during my speech.
