God Adds Another MVP to His Starting Line-up

I was saddened today to learn that E.V. Hill had passed away earlier this week. I was fortunate enough to hear him preach at a couple of Promise Keepers conferences. He was definitely a powerful soldier in the Lord's army.

His passing this week along with Fred Rogers (an ordained Presbyterian pastor in addition to being "Mr. Rogers") makes me think that God is calling some of his best and brightest a little closer to home. Similarly, I would bet that Mr. Speaker, Lew McManus, has been assisting with various negotiations and divine legislative activities since he joined his Lord in December. Perhaps, God wants some of his most valuable players to help him during these trying times when war seems so likely.

Rev. Dr. E.V. Hill

My favorite quote from E.V. Hill came at the Promise Keepers rally in Boulder, Colorado on July 30, 1993. My brother and father attended the conference and the power of Hill's words were still ringing in their ears when I went to my first Promise Keepers event with them the following year.

The quote is featured on the Promise Keepers website (www.promisekeepers.org).

“(Jesus) came back at him again and he said, ‘Devil, It is written, “Man shall not live by bread alone.” It is written, “Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.”’

He hit him over and over and over with the Scripture. And guess what happened. The devil ran! And guess what you can do, beginning tonight? You don’t have to take it! You don’t have to take his mess! You don’t have to take his stuff! Hit him! Hit him! Hit him! Hit him!”
