For those who aren't yet aware, the administration and Board of Directors of Southwstern Community Action Council has decided to discontinue providing youth services programming including Time Out Youth Shelter and other services for runaway and homeless youth and their families.
This decision was made at the end of October and was implemented with the closure of the Time Out Youth Shelter effective on Friday, Nov. 12.
Despite this decision, and despite the fact that all of our staff including myself have been laid off, the needs of these vulnerable youth and their families continues to be a priority for the staff and many of our partners in the community. As a result, we have begun working to see that services are renewed as soon as humanly possible.
We are working to form a new 501(c)3 non-profit organization that will provide services to protect runaway and homeless youth from harm, exploitation, abuse and neglect.
Currently, we are planning to meet with community representatives and potential partners to explore opportunities for collaboration on behalf of our clients.
One step we have taken to move forward is the establishment of a new web site for our newly formed organization.
TimeOutYouthServices.net has been registered and will be updated frequently as our work to organize continues.
Meanwhile if you are in need, or know a youth that is in crisis, please call the National Runaway Switchboard at 1-800-621-4000.
Stay tuned for more information!
